These are controlled crossings and can be identified by the push button for pedestrians to press at the side of the road. They are controlled by traffic lights, however do not have the normal red and amber phase before green, instead they have a flashing amber light, which indicates that drivers must give way to pedestrians on the crossing, however if the crossing is clear they may continue
Some will have zig zag white markings on both sides of the crossing (this will be where the lights are for a pedestrian crossing only and not for a road junction) the crossing area is marked by studs and a stop line to indicate where drivers should stop to give way to the pedestrians.
Pedestrian use: Push the control button to activate and wait for a steady green figure to be shown. When the green figure begins to flash do not start to cross. If you have already started continue to cross, you should have time to cross safely.
