Exercise 2: Who or What are “other road users”? (Give 5 examples)
You can fill the blanks in your Part two Workbook to show your trainer on the next session
You must always be ready and able to deal promptly and appropriately with the actions of other road users. By observing and reading the road ahead (including into side roads) and behind (via your mirrors), you should always be able to deal safely with the sudden or unexpected actions of other road users. You must develop your anticipation to such a level that any action taken by ORUs does not catch you by surprise.
Common Occurrences are;
ORUs pulling up or out in front of you without warning
Early observation of the potential problem and application of the M-S-M routine should avert any danger. Look for clues to ORUs’ actions and try to predict what they might do. In this way, if they do act as you anticipate, it ought to be relatively simple to deal safely with the situation.
Flashing headlights or waving to you to go before them.
As you know, it has become common place for drivers to use flashing headlights as a means of allowing others to move before them. ORUs are not empowered to do this, however, if you have checked carefully that it is safe to proceed it is often better to accept the invitation than wait. Treat each situation on its merits and ensure you only flash your headlights to warn others of your presence.
