Many people will want to take their pet dog in their car at some point, either on holiday, to the vets or on a day out. When taking a dog in the car, the animal should be suitably restrained so that it is not causing a distraction to the driver or able to cause possible injury to itself or the driver.

Suitable correctly fitted restraint equipment should be used, such as:

  • Seat belt harness
  • Pet carrier
  • Dog guard
  • Dog cage
Dog car harness

When walking a dog near to a road, do not leave it off a lead as there’s the possibility it could run towards or into the traffic causing an accident. When walking on pathways or roads that are shared with cyclists, horses or other pedestrians, leads should be kept short and the dog under control.
