25. Position / Normal Stops (NS 2.1.4)

You will be asked several times by your Part Two test examiner to pull over at a safe and convenient place at the side of the road. This presents an opportunity for the examiner:

  • To check that you do, in fact, choose a safe location.
  • To check that you apply the M-S-M routine and stop smoothly and safely.
  • To brief you, if necessary, on an element of the test.
  • To test your ability to move off safely uphill, downhill and at an angle

Exercise 10:
List 8 or more places that would be illegal or inconvenient to stop your car?
Complete this in your Workbook

You must choose the stop position carefully and ensure it is completely safe and does not inconvenience other road users.

The Highway Code lists typical places to avoid stopping in the parking section of the book.

If you do inadvertently stop at an unsuitable place check it is safe to pull forward and immediately move to a convenient position.
