Box No. 13 on the DL25 is the move off manoeuvre .

Safety

You should ensure that you move off safely to avoid making any other road user slow down or change direction. This will require you to use the mirror-signal-manoeuvre (M-S-M) routine. Check your mirrors (rear-view and offside) and the blind area (to the side and behind you) and consider a signal before moving away.

Avoid indicating right to other road users passing, or about to pass, you on the right. This could lead to confusion or potential danger as they may misread your intentions. Move away smoothly and steadily and remember you must not make any other road user slow or change direction due to your poor judgement. When performing an angle move off (from behind a parked car), add at least one shoulder check before fully moving off. Check mirrors again.

Control

You must move off under control, demonstrating a balanced use of the accelerator, clutch, brakes and steering, also, use the correct gear (i.e. 2nd may be suitable if moving away downhill). Avoid excessive acceleration; build your speed progressively.

Common Faults

Forgetting to do a shoulder check or moving off causing another road user to slow down or change direction to avoid you.
Rolling back slightly through poor clutch control
