Gears

Selecting the correct gear when driving has many benefits including saving fuel, stability of the vehicle.

Select a lower gear when:

• travelling at lower speeds
• approaching a hazard
• Going uphill
• Going downhill (engine compression slows the vehicle during descent)
• On slippery roads

Select higher gears when:

• Cruising at speed
• Certain slippery conditions where selecting a lower gear may cause the wheels to spin
