Traffic Lights

Traffic lights are designed to control the flow of traffic at some busy road junctions. You should always apply the M-S-M routine as you approach traffic lights and be prepared and able to stop if necessary. Expect lights to change as you approach and keep your speed well in hand. When waiting at traffic lights always apply your parking brake. Select neutral unless you suspect the lights might to green soon, in which case select first gear.

Always move away promptly from traffic lights to maximise the number of vehicles that can travel through them. Finally, observe into side roads as you travel through traffic lights to satisfy yourself that other road users are waiting. Watch for filter lane arrows and act promptly when you have priority.

Poor application of the M-S-M routine.
Not being prepared for a sudden change of lights.
